Why is Pentair stock plummeting today?

Investing.com -- Pentair stock plunged 18.1% in pre-open trading to reach $62 after the water solutions company released a deeply disappointing preliminary earnings update and slashed its full-year 2026 outlook, citing a sudden and severe inventory destocking cycle in its Pool distribution channel. The company disclosed that Q2 2026 sales are expected to land at approximately $930 million — roughly 17% below its prior guidance of approximately 1% growth — with pool channel destocking alone estimated to have wiped out approximately $170 million in Pool segment sales and approximately $105 million in segment income during the quarter.
